Charlie was born in London and graduated from Laine Theatre Arts.   In 2016, he was cast by Cameron Mackintosh to play Arthur Kipps in his new production of Half A Sixpence at Chichester Festival Theatre. A West End transfer to the Noel Coward Theatre immediately followed, with Charlie’s breakout starring performance garnering unprecedented critical acclaim.   For his performance, Charlie was nominated for the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Actor In A Musical; the 2017 Carl Alan Performer’s Award; the 2016 UK Theatre Award for Best Performance In A Musical; and won the 2017 WhatsOnStage Award for Best Actor In A Musical. The production was recently broadcast on Sky Arts as Kipps – The New Half A Sixpence Musical.   Charlie made his Broadway debut as Barnaby Tucker in Hello, Dolly! (Shubert Theater, New York) opposite Bette Midler and Bernadette Peters. For his performance, Charlie was awarded the 2018 Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut.   For three consecutive Christmas seasons, Charlie starred at the London Palladium – as Dick in the Olivier Award-winning Dick Whittington; returning a year on as Prince in Snow White; then in Pantoland at the Palladium.   Other credits: Stephen Sondheims Old Friends – A Celebration (Sondheim Theatre); Simon Green in Lloyd George Knew My Father (Theatre Royal, Windsor); Dvornichek in Tom Stoppard’s Rough Crossing (National Tour); Eddie in Mamma Mia! (International Tour); his professional debut in Wicked (Apollo Victoria Theatre).   Most recently, he played the role of Bert in Cameron Mackintosh’s revival of Mary Poppins (Prince Edward Theatre), for which he received his second Olivier Award nomination for 2020 Best Actor In A Musical.   Charlie returns to the role of Bobby Child in Crazy For You, having recently starred in the Chichester Festival Theatre production directed by Susan Stroman.   @charlie.stemp

Marilyn read English at Manchester University followed by a post-graduate Diploma in Drama. Following a season in TIE at Derby Playhouse she worked in Rep at Crewe, Chester, Ipswich and Cheltenham where she played Faye Apple in the UK Premiere of Anyone Can Whistle. As well as the Beggar Woman she has played Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd three times. West End shows include Oliver!, Gospell, Show Boat at the London Palladium,The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Never Forget, and Funny Girl  all at the Savoy, Design For Living at the Globe (now the Gielgud), Into The Woods at Regent’s Park,  What a Performance with David Suchet at the Queen’s and Oklahoma! at the National Theatre and the Lyceum. She also toured the UK and Ireland with Footloose, High Society, Honk!l Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Copacabana, and Wicked among others. Workhops include Liberation by Jonathan Dove at the National Theatre Studio, Lockhart by Ashley Robinson and Jason Carr, and Pieces of String by Gus Gowland, which it is hoped will come into the West End in 2024. TV apprearances include a science fiction series Home Invasion for the Nordic Entertainment Group, Grantchester, Coronation Street, and Doctors, while films include Falstaff with Music Theatre London, Les Miserables, and Wicked (to be released in November 2024). A founder member of Fascinating Aida, she last appeared with them in One Last Flutter 2003 at the Comedy (now the Harold Pinter Theatre) when they were nominated for an Olivier. Other favourite roles were Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte for Music Theatre London in Hamburg, Greenwich and the QEH and Madame de Rosemonde in Adam Cooper’s dance drama version of Les Liaisons Dangereuses in Japan and Sadlers Wells. Having recently completed a History Degree with the Open University she is currently studying for an MA in Creative Writing.
